We are filled with the Holiday Spirit this season as we bring to our rendition of “T’was the night before Christmas.” Happy Holidays from Daniel, Caleb, and Kathy!
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the track
Not a runner was running, not a single or pack
Our Injinji’s were hung but the chimney with care
In hopes that new run duds would be put in there
Dailymilers were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Boston danced in their heads
A small group was trying, but ready to quit
After Kathy laid smack down in a monster wall sit
When behold! What I heard sounded very alarmin’
I sprinted outside, checking splits on my Garmin
At first a faint crunching, on the new fallen snow
Then became a stampede on the trail down below
Then I spotted Bill Bowerman with a stopwatch in hand
He was coaching a night run for a ramshackle band
Brian Sell I first spotted, as I crouched on my haunches
He was lighting the trail with his bright red Brooks Launches!
Next came Halls: Ryan, Sarah sporting Hyperspeed Asics
Were my eyes playing tricks, do I need to get Lasik?
They were loping along with astonishing speed
I suppose their instinctual need did they feed
Then along came the Gouchers and a Nike contingent!
Boy did Kara look hot, but her pace was still stringent
The moon was a-shining off of Bernard Lagat’s dome
There was no way I’d be heading back in my home
As the crew ran by him, Bowerman barked out his orders
I thought he might drive them all the way to the border
“On Dathan, on Abdi, on Meb, and on Deena
Run Haile, Run Usain, Paula and Konstantina”
The elites streamed on by, oh there must have been fifty
Just to see such a sight was the most bestest gifty
As they left I turned round, to go in for a drink
But Wetmore called out wisdom for all us to think:
“These elites are so good ’cause they put in the miles,
They hit hundred mile weeks keeping giggles and smiles
So if you love running, if it brings you great cheer
Have fun while you run, but run more miles next year!”
Then he ran off and joined his band of elites
I knew that he’d coach them to world record feats.
And as for our wishes, from the RTR crew
We hope for a speedy Holiday season you!
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
I love this.
LOVE IT.
Caleb, that sweater is intense. It’s good to know you’re intensity carries over to areas outside of running.
Kath, where’s the Christmas sweater?
That sweater is hard-core…wow!
The sweater will have to be donated to The Smithsonian once this show is syndicated.
