Hi, I just ran and finished my first marathon! I ran it on Sunday May 2nd. It was a National Guard Marathon held in Lincoln, NE. There were 6500 people that ran the half marathon and another 1500 that ran the marathon. It was a wonderful experience, one I will never forget! At the beginning of the race all 8000 of us, along with all our families and friends, said a prayer together and then the National Anthem was played. Our finish line was on the 50 yard line of the memorial stadium in Lincoln, NE. where we each got to see ourselves running through the tunnel, which the NE cornhuskers run through for each football game, on the big screen. From there we were greeted by National Guards that were lined up on both sides of the trail leading to the 50 yard line. What an awesome experience! Whether I accomplished my goal that day or not didn’t matter, the experience of trying to do the marathon, the wonderful people that I met, and the connection that all 8000 of us had for that one day has made me want to try to do it all over again.
